JOYCE
Managing Director/Tutor
After
completing his teacher training in 1972, Brian Joyce
worked in a London school as a junior school teacher. He also
worked part-time in a boarding school for boys with special
needs.
In 1975, Brian moved north to Peterborough, starting
as a scale 2 teacher. He also moved into developing a school
bookshop scheme to encourage children to read more. This involvement
gave him the opportunity to work with BB2 for a short period
on a children's book programme called Long, Tall and Short
Stories which was broadcast first in 1981 and then 3 years
later.
In
1980 Brian and his Finnish wife Hilkka made a decision to
move permanently to Tampere with their children. Brian found
a work place in Tampere in 1981 at LS-Kieliopisto, but in
1983 he was offered a one-year lectureship at Tampere University.
Following that he moved on to the University of Technology
in Hervanta as a language teacher. After this spell in Higher
Education he moved back to LS-Kieliopisto as half-owner. By
1989 he owned 70% of the school and changed its name to LSC-Opisto
(Language Service Communications Oy).
He completed a Masters Degree in Open and Distance Education
in 2000 with the Open University in the UK. In 2001 he was
appointed Associate Lecturer for the Institute of Educational
Technology, in the Open University; he is currently tutoring
H802.
In 2004 he co-published
an article in a journal about online learning and in 2005
received a
best teacher award from the Open University, UK.
His plans are to develop an online learning environment in
partnership
with other institutes.
LSC-Opisto has already been awarded Vuoden Suunnannäyttäjä
1999 by TYT as a direct result of partnership and this
Web-based learning vision.
